doula services

 What is a Doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides continuous emotional, physical and informational support to the laboring woman and her partner.  It is my goal to facilitate a safe and positive environment such that the memory of your birth is enhanced and protected.

How Can Kat Help Us?

My support brings expertise and hands-on experience to birthing women and their partners.  I can provide non-medical alternatives for pain relief, knowledge of medical interventions and protocols, while honoring and respecting the choices made by the laboring couple.

My role as a doula is currently limited to providing back-up support to my doula colleagues so that I may provide my full attention to my counseling practice. Attending births remains one of the most sacred experiences I have shared with couples. I am honored and privieldged to have shared these moments with my cilents.

Services offered include:

  • Prenatal support – visits and phone support.
  • Assistance in developing a birth plan
  • Continuous support to laboring woman and her partner during labor and birth.
  • Suggesting coping strategies for pain management.
  • Provide a sense of confidence for the couple in labor, by helping to create a sense of peace and trust in the birth process.
  • Offer confidence and emotional support to the couple during labor and birth in order to maintain the celebrated sacredness of birth.
  • Breastfeeding support.
  • Post-natal visit at your home.

Benefits of Doula Support

More than thirteen scientific studies have shown that when doulas care for women in labor, they are likely to have shorter labors, fewer medical interventions, fewer epidurals, fewer cesareans and healthier babies.  Many professional and government groups have recognized the valuable service that doulas provide. - January 2000 DONA Press Release

A lending library of books and videos is made available to couples that work with Kat.

“The way a woman is treated by the professionals on whom she depends may largely determine how she feels about the birth experience for the rest of her life.”
